"Administrative Measures for External Marking of Automobile Products" will be implemented in February 2006

The "Administrative Measures on the External Marking of Automobile Products" (hereinafter referred to as the "Measures") that foreigners are most unwilling to see in a Chinese-foreign equity joint-equipment automobile company will be promulgated on schedule and will be implemented on February 1 next year, which will prevent joint ventures from playing down "Made in China". The behavior continues to occur.

The National Development and Reform Commission recently published the "Measures" on its official website and pointed out that the "Measures" were introduced to promote the auto manufacturing enterprises to enhance their awareness of quality and brand awareness. He also emphasized that the names of car companies in the car's external logo must be marked with Chinese characters. This method is applicable to cars sold in China and sold to the domestic market.

At the same time, the "Measures" also made clear provisions on the marking height and materials. For a vehicle with a vehicle length exceeding 4.2m, the Chinese character of the logo shall not be less than 25mm in height, and for a vehicle with a vehicle length of no more than 4.2m, the Chinese character of the logo shall not be less than 20mm in height. If the joint venture parties of the automobile production enterprises mark up their respective names or acronyms of Chinese characters, the name of the manufacturer may no longer be marked. The Measures emphasize that in the front and rear logos of passenger cars and commercial vehicle bodies, the names of automobile manufacturers, trade marks, model names, etc., shall be permanently maintained, and paint spraying methods and stickers shall not be used.

In recent years, with the increasing number of joint ventures and new models, there are fewer and fewer signs that can represent the name of the Chinese manufacturer or the origin of the vehicle on the vehicle body. This is most prominent in luxury cars. Audi, BMW, etc. Domestically produced luxury cars have basically no difference between their external logos and imported cars of the same brand. However, this situation will change significantly from February next year.

Senior automotive industry analysts believe that the introduction of the "Measures" will have an impact on the automotive industry mainly in highlighting China's manufacturing capabilities and increasing China's equal rights to dialogue. Nowadays, the models and brands of the joint ventures are all foreign, and the status of the Chinese has become increasingly weaker in models. For a long time consumers will forget the Chinese manufacturers. After this method is introduced, it is to prevent Chinese auto companies from becoming obscure assembly plants. Ensure that they have more equal rights to dialogue. However, he also said that the "Measures" will not affect the introduction of more brands by multinational companies in China.

After learning that the "Measures" were issued, relevant persons from Shanghai GM said that the preparations for adjusting the external logos have already begun. They will surely be completed within the prescribed time limit. However, at what time the specific launch of the new logo has not yet been determined. Prior to this, the chief representative of BMW China once said that once the "Measures" were issued, they would be implemented according to Chinese policies. (Xiong Guozhi)
