The Bolingbrook Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 16, has recently been added to our site. This department operates out of five fire stations, each equipped with a suppression company. All stations except Station 5 also have a medic unit. Station 1's suppression team uses a jump company setup, switching between an engine or ladder truck based on the situation. A new engine is expected to arrive at Station 5 soon, and a new medic unit should be operational before the end of the year.
One of the standout pieces of equipment is a photo showing one of the three Ferrara-built units in Bolingbrook. It’s worth noting that Larry Shapiro took this shot, capturing a detailed look at the department’s impressive fleet. The suppression vehicles include a mix of manufacturers such as Precision Fire Apparatus (based in Camdenton, MO), Ferrara, Grumman, and Seagrave. Meanwhile, the medic units come from various manufacturers including Road Rescue, Wheeled Coach, Life Line, and Osage.
There are some pieces of equipment missing from the photos we’ve shared so far. For instance, there’s a 1992 Seagrave reserve engine located at Station 4. Additionally, Station 4 houses a trailer containing a Gator AWD unit, while Station 5 has a trailer housing the technical rescue gear.
Another interesting detail is the medic unit at Station 1, which originally belonged to Air Angels, Inc., a company that ceased operations in February 2009. Air Angels provided both ground and air medical transport services, but unfortunately, one of their helicopters crashed in 2008. Interestingly, this particular ambulance has different striping compared to other units in Bolingbrook since it was acquired from Air Angels.
For those interested in the infrastructure, Station 3 is located at 1111 W. Boughton Road, as captured in another photo by Larry Shapiro. This station is just one example of the department’s well-maintained facilities across the area.
In summary, the Bolingbrook Fire Department offers a diverse range of vehicles and equipment, reflecting its commitment to providing top-notch emergency response services. From precision-engineered trucks to specialized rescue tools, this department continues to evolve and adapt to meet community needs. With ongoing upgrades like the new engine and medic unit, they’re ensuring they remain prepared for any situation that arises.
