The Bolingbrook Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 16, has recently been added to our site. This department operates out of five fire stations, each equipped with a suppression company. All stations except Station 5 also operate a medic unit. At Station 1, the suppression company functions as a "jump company," deploying either the engine or ladder truck based on the type of emergency call received. There’s exciting news about new vehicles on the horizon: Station 5 is expecting a brand-new engine soon, and a new medic unit is set to join the fleet before the end of the year.
One of the striking images we have of Bolingbrook’s fleet is that of Engine 2, a Ferrara Intruder 2 model. This particular piece of equipment is one of three Ferrara units currently in service. Another notable vehicle is Engine 5, which stands out due to its unique status as one of two commercial engines manufactured by Precision Fire Apparatus in Camdenton, Missouri. These images provide just a glimpse into the diverse fleet maintained by the department.
However, some assets aren’t visible in these photos. For instance, Station 4 houses a 1992 Seagrave reserve engine, along with a trailer carrying a Gator AWD unit. Additionally, Station 5 features a trailer housing the department’s technical rescue equipment. The medic unit stationed at Station 1 has a distinct look compared to others in the fleet. It was originally owned by Air Angels, Inc., a company that ceased operations in February 2009 after an unfortunate helicopter crash in 2008.
Station 3, located at 1111 W. Boughton Road, is another key facility within the department. While these images give us insight into the equipment and layout of Bolingbrook's firefighting resources, there’s always more to explore and understand about how this department operates daily. From the variety of manufacturers represented in their fleet—Precision Fire Apparatus, Ferrara, Grumman, and Seagrave—to the mix of medic units built by companies like Road Rescue, Wheeled Coach, Life Line, and Osage, Bolingbrook demonstrates a commitment to having the right tools for any situation.
