It's late tonight, but I just got some updates from Jeff Braun Jr. about a recent fire incident in Cicero. This happened on October 5th, 2017, at around 11 PM at 5939 W. Roosevelt Road. The initial calls came in around that time, and Chicago firefighters were the first to respond. When they arrived, they discovered it was actually Cicero’s fire department’s jurisdiction, but because it was a large commercial building involved, Chicago stayed on the scene to help out.
The response was quite extensive, with units from Cicero, Berwyn, Chicago, North Riverside, Oak Park, Forest Park, Stickney, Lyons, and Bedford Park all showing up. It was definitely a joint effort. Jeff Braun Jr., who does COUNTY-WIDE FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY, shared some incredible images of the event.
I’ll start with one photo where you can see firefighters climbing a ladder. There’s also another great shot featuring a North Riverside FD tower ladder hard at work. In other photos, you'll notice elevated master streams being used to tackle the flames, which is always an impressive sight. One image even shows water spurting out from a fire hose coupling, highlighting the intensity of the situation.
There’s another fantastic photo of a Cicero fire engine at the scene, along with a couple of tower ladders working their master streams together. And of course, there are shots of Chicago fire trucks responding to the emergency, as well as a close-up of a Forest Park FD fire engine on site.
In addition to the still photos, I’ve also got some quick video clips courtesy of Steve Redick. These videos give you a real sense of the action and chaos during the fire. There are three different clips available, each providing a unique perspective on how the firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the blaze.
I’m sure there will be more details and perhaps even more photos and videos to come as the story unfolds. For now, this gives you a good overview of what happened that night in Cicero. It’s always inspiring to see so many departments coming together to handle such emergencies. Let me know if you want any further information or additional context about the event!
