The Braidwood Fire Department in Will County has recently been included in our directory under Division 15. Despite having only one fire station, it houses an impressive array of firefighting equipment that is nothing short of fascinating. In fact, due to the sheer number of vehicles they operate, we've had to dedicate two full pages on our website just to showcase them all. The department operates two ambulances, one engine, one pumper-tanker, a mid-mount tower ladder, and three squads. Braidwood is also home to one of Illinois' nuclear power plants, and their unique logo captures the evolution over the years from coal mining to nuclear power—a testament to progress and innovation.
The creative design of their logo is truly remarkable. It features a depiction of a coal miner from days long past transitioning into symbols representing nuclear energy today. This visual narrative not only highlights the community’s history but also underscores its commitment to modernization. All photographs featured here were generously provided by Karl Klotz, who captured these images with precision and care.
One of the standout pieces of equipment at Braidwood FD is their Spartan-built Alexis pumper/tanker. Sleek yet robust, this vehicle stands as a testament to contemporary firefighting technology. Another highlight is their Spartan Smeal mid-mount tower ladder, which provides excellent aerial coverage during emergencies. The department also boasts an E-ONE Cyclone heavy rescue vehicle, marking it as the sole unit of its kind within the fleet. Each piece of apparatus plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of both residents and visitors alike.
Braidwood’s dedication to maintaining state-of-the-art resources is evident in every aspect of their operations. From their innovative logo to their diverse array of firefighting vehicles, each detail reflects pride and professionalism. These updates come directly from firsthand observations made during recent visits to the station. I hope you enjoy exploring more about this exceptional department and its contributions to emergency response services.
