PHFD Mourns Loss of Former Deputy Chief Ron Olsen

From the Prospect Heights Fire District website: Ron Olsen, a former deputy chief of the PHFD and father of our current Battalion Chief Scott Olsen, passed away on Wednesday, November 8th. Ron began his service with the PHFD back in 1962. He retired as deputy chief in 1988 and continued to serve as a part-time fire inspector until his second retirement in 2015. Over the years, Ron made significant contributions not only in his official capacity but also behind the scenes. During the early 1970s, when the original fire station underwent its first expansion, Ron played an instrumental role in the masonry work and various other details. Later, in the 2000s, he assisted with two major masonry repair projects at the fire station, helping to save both time and resources for the PHFD. Ron's dedication and service to the PHFD and the residents of Prospect Heights were invaluable. His commitment extended beyond his official duties, making him a beloved figure within the community. He will be deeply missed. Ronald J. Olsen, aged 79, of Grayslake, formerly of Prospect Heights, was born on October 24, 1938, in Chicago to Harry and Bertha (née Torkilsen) Olsen. He passed away on November 7, 2017. Ron was a retired deputy chief of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District, a 50-year member of D.C. Crieger Masonic Lodge #81 AF & AM, and a past patron of the Arlington Heights Chapter of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine L. (née Weiss) Olsen; his loving children Kimberly (Richard, Lieutenant of MPFD), Scott (Georgette), Battalion Chief of the PHFD, and Brigette (Daniel Schley) Miksch; cherished grandchildren Emily (Tony) Thompson, Brent Fergus, Jenna Christensen, Jacob Christensen, Nicole Olsen, Megan Olsen, Steven Miksch, Victoria Miksch, and Breeanna Schley; his dear brother Robert Olsen, Richard (Ruth) Olsen, Kenneth (Debbie) Olsen, Jerry (Danila) Olsen, and Laura Olsen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 3 PM to 9 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, located at 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 10:30 AM. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. As I write this, I'm reminded of how much Ron meant to everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the dedication he showed throughout his career. It's hard to put into words just how much he will be missed, but we can honor him by continuing to serve our communities with the same passion and integrity he exemplified. Rest in peace, Ron.
