According to a comprehensive foreign news report, on March 11th, local time, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NewJerseyMotorVehicleCommission) voted to pass a resolution that would prohibit Tesla from selling cars in the state. At this point, Tesla's direct sales model has been banned in three states.
Earlier, Arizona and Texas issued a decree prohibiting Tesla from selling ModelS electric sports cars to consumers through its direct distribution stores. In addition, Colorado and Virginia are also preparing to issue a ban, and dealer associations in New York and other places are also in conflict with Tesla. Unlike most other car companies, Tesla has built its own direct sales channels, and consumers do not need to buy cars through 4S stores. This model has caused dealers to lose profits and was opposed by the traditional dealer alliance.
In October last year, the New Jersey Automobile Commission filed a related bill. Tesla said that the company had negotiated with the New Jersey state government for a month before the resolution came out. After the voting results were announced, Tesla decided to stop selling cars in New Jersey from April 1 this year, and shut down the sales department and dismiss 27 employees.
The official Tesla blog expressed opposition, saying it was an "insult" to the concept of a free market. A Tesla spokesperson did not comment on the incident.
