Tianjin Releases Solid Waste Pollution Prevention Information Announcement

On May 29, the Tianjin Environmental Protection Bureau held a press conference to release the “2007 Notice on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution from Solid Waste in Tianjin”. The reporter learned that in 2007, although the amount of industrial hazardous waste and industrial solid waste produced in Tianjin increased over the previous year, the comprehensive utilization rate of solid waste generally increased, and industrial hazardous waste achieved zero emissions.
According to reports, in 2007, the city’s industrial solid waste production amounted to 13.9994 million tons, an increase of 8.34% over the previous year; the industrial solid waste utilization was 13.8022 million tons (including the use of industrial solid waste stored in previous years). The comprehensive utilization rate was 98.42%; the harmless disposal of industrial solid waste was 219,000 tons and the storage capacity was 0.21 million tons. Among them, the industrial hazardous waste production amounted to 151,100 tons, an increase of 5.38% over the previous year; the industrial hazardous waste comprehensive utilization amounted to 122,400 tons, the comprehensive utilization rate was 79.43%; industrial hazardous waste was harmless The disposal volume is 3200 tons, the storage capacity is 6.94 tons, and the industrial hazardous waste is zero emission.
To welcome the convening of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Tianjin will also strengthen the management of solid waste disposal. In the Binhai New Area, a larger hazardous waste innocent disposal plant will be set up. In addition, Tianjin City has particularly strengthened the investigation of industrial hazardous waste registration and registration in the three major industries of chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and battery manufacturing, as well as the investigation of industrial hazardous waste sources in key industries.
