I was on the scene last night when Chicago Fire responded to a three-alarm blaze at 1610 North Wells Street. The fire broke out in the early hours and quickly spread through the upper floors of the building. I managed to capture some images that really capture the intensity of the situation.
The first photo shows Chicago's Squad 1 arriving at the scene. You can see the firefighters already geared up and ready to tackle the flames. It was a chaotic yet impressive sight as they worked to contain the fire before it could cause more damage. That shot was taken by my friend Adam Koscielski, who was there with me.
In another image, you can clearly see thick smoke billowing from the roof of the burning structure. The heat was palpable even from a distance, and you could hear the crackling of the flames as they consumed everything in their path. This photo also comes courtesy of Adam’s sharp eye behind the lens.
There’s something particularly haunting about the third photo, which captures the overall fire scene. Flames dance across the building’s facade, casting an orange glow against the dark sky. It’s a reminder of both the destructive power of fire and the bravery of those who fight it.
The final two shots show different angles of the aftermath. One focuses on the firefighters still hard at work, dousing the remnants of the fire with water hoses. The other gives a broader view of the damage, highlighting how extensive the impact was. Each photograph tells its own story about the resilience of the community and the efforts made to protect lives and property.
These images don’t just document an event—they serve as a testament to the courage and dedication of emergency responders. If you have any thoughts or want to learn more about what happened that night, feel free to reach out!
