Donald Stanley Rimgale; August 3, 1940 – November 13, 2017

Hey, I just wanted to share something I came across today. It's about a man named Donald S. Rimgale, Sr., who recently passed away. He was 77 years old and originally from Chicago, but he spent his final years in Elmhurst. Don had an incredible career as a firefighter, retiring from the Chicago Fire Department after 31 dedicated years in 1996. During his time there, he worked on some pretty impressive squads like the Snorkel Squad and the Flying Squad, and even served as a chief arson investigator for the Office of Fire Investigation. He got so much recognition for his work—it’s really inspiring. What’s even more fascinating is how his firefighting career led him into acting! He became the real-life inspiration for Robert DeNiro's character in the movie "Backdraft." Not only did he make an appearance in the film, but he also went on to have roles in several movies and TV shows like "Baby's Day Out," "Gladiator," and even guest spots on popular shows like "Good Morning America" and "Entertainment Tonight." Talk about living a full life! On top of all that, Don was married for 30 years to Sharon, and they had six kids together. He leaves behind a big family, including grandchildren and nieces/nephews. It’s sad to hear about the loss of loved ones like his son Daniel and grandson Jonathan, who predeceased him. There’s going to be a memorial service for him this Saturday at the Sandwich Fire Department. It seems fitting since he gave so much of his life to helping others through firefighting. If you want to send condolences, you can mail them to his family via Beverage Family Funeral Home in Sandwich. Anyway, it’s always humbling to read stories like these about people who accomplished so much and touched so many lives. Thanks for letting me share this. Take care, [Your Name]
