Wintrhop Harbor has been added to the site

Winthrop Harbor, nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan in the northeastern corner of MABAS Division 4 near the Wisconsin border, operates out of a unique fire station that’s integrated into the municipal building alongside the police department. This compact yet efficient facility houses an impressive nine pieces of firefighting equipment within its four bays. Known for their dedication to Seagrave, Winthrop Harbor maintains a fleet that includes two engines and a 75-foot Meanstick quint. Their longstanding tradition of using FWD vehicles is evident as they proudly adorned their modern Seagrave units with FWD logos—a nod to their history. Interestingly, all their equipment except for the ambulances is painted white. One of their most cherished assets is a meticulously restored 1949 FWD fire engine, which takes part in local parades. This classic vehicle even made the journey to Clintonville, Wisconsin, for the grand celebration marking Seagrave’s 125th anniversary. The vibrant presence of this antique piece speaks volumes about the department’s commitment to preserving its rich history while embracing modern advancements. Captured during the Seagrave event, the officer’s side of the 1949 FWD engine showcases its elegant design and meticulous restoration work. Another compelling image from the same era highlights the entire Winthrop Harbor fleet as it appeared in the 1970s, including not only the 1949 and 1952 FWD engines but also a 1966 Dodge/Welch mini pumper, a 1963 900 Series American LaFrance engine, a 1973 P-Series Seagrave engine, and a 1974 Ford/Welch squad unit. These photos serve as a timeline of the department’s growth and evolution over decades. In addition to these historical treasures, the current lineup continues to reflect innovation and reliability. The integration of cutting-edge technology ensures that Winthrop Harbor remains prepared for any emergency situation while honoring its past. As residents and visitors alike admire the department’s dedication to service and preservation, it’s clear that Winthrop Harbor Fire Department stands as both a guardian and a storyteller of its community’s legacy.
