Late Monday morning on January 8, 2018, Chicago firefighters were called to a still and box alarm fire at 4828 W. Van Buren. The intensity of the blaze quickly escalated, prompting the dispatch to upgrade it to a 2-11 alarm with an EMS Plan 1 in place due to a Mayday alert. Watching the situation unfold was intense, as flames tore through the structure, sending thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.
I managed to capture some footage of the firefighting efforts, which you can watch below. The video shows the firefighters working tirelessly under challenging conditions. It’s a stark reminder of the bravery and dedication these men and women exhibit every day when they answer the call.
Attached are several images that provide a closer look at the scene. In one photo, you can see a firefighter fully geared up, standing amidst dense smoke as he battles the inferno. Another image captures the raw power of the fire itself, while another highlights the use of a deck gun spraying water onto the blazing structure. You'll also notice a couple of shots featuring Chicago FD Squad 2A, which played a crucial role in managing the situation.
The images truly speak volumes about the scale of destruction and the coordinated efforts required to bring such a fire under control. It's moments like these that highlight the importance of having well-trained professionals ready to face life-threatening situations head-on. I hope this post serves as both a tribute to their hard work and a cautionary tale regarding fire safety.
As always, stay safe and be prepared! If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to reach out.
