According to the auto news website Autoblog, Proterra, the US electric bus manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that it will open its fast charging technology patents to the public transportation industry in a royalty-free manner to accelerate the popularization of electric vehicle technology applications and infrastructure construction.
Protella has opened three patents, all of which are related to Single Blade Charge Technology (SingleBladeChargingTechnology). Protella has studied a variety of charging methods and found it to be the safest and most efficient. This technology allows the Protella electric bus to travel 700 miles (about 1127 km) in one day. In the past five years, the US public transportation agency has used the Protella single-action leaf roof rapid charging system to exceed 250,000 times, ensuring an all-weather seamless electric bus service. To meet transportation operations, the Protella single-lobe vehicle connection system supports 250-1000 volts DC charging voltage and can deliver up to 1400 amps.
