Goodyear Tire & Rubber announced today that its new tire manufacturing plant in Pulandian, Dalian has been officially put into operation. Goodyear Chairman, President and CEO Richard J. Kramer, Governor of Liaoning Province Chen Zhenggao, Party Committee Secretary of Liaoning Provincial Party Committee Tang Jun and Dalian Mayor Li Wancai attended the opening ceremony. Also attending the ceremony were 700 guests including Dan Smytka, President of Goodyear Asia Pacific, local government leaders and media representatives, and employees of the new factory at Goodyear Pulandian.
In 2009, 78.03 million square meters of the Goodyear Pulandian factory officially broke ground and was completed on schedule in 2011. Pulandian Plant is the world's most advanced factory in Goodyear. It adopts strict green design, high-efficiency, and environmentally-friendly operating standards and is one of the most advanced green tire factories in the global tire industry. The commissioning of the new plant will greatly increase the production capacity of Goodyear and better meet the needs of the passenger and commercial vehicle markets in China. Using leading technology from Goodyear's global R&D center, the new plant will create high-quality, high-performance tires that will help Goodyear gain and maintain its competitive advantage in the Chinese market.
Richard Kramer, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Goodyear, said: "The formal production of the new plant has extraordinary significance for Goodyear Global and is the core of Goodyear's strategy of "winning in China". The Pulandian plant was selected as one of the demonstration projects for future manufacturing investment. The provincial and municipal leaders gave great support during the project approval and project construction, which in turn ensured the smooth completion of the new Pulandian plant as planned.â€

Goodyear established its first representative office and sales network in Beijing in 1993. It established a factory in Dalian in 1994 and became the first foreign tire company to invest and build factories in China. With the completion of the new plant, Goodyear's existing Dalian plant will also cease operation during the year. By then, all the production of the plant will be transferred to the new plant in Pulandian.
Qu Xiaofei, deputy mayor of Dalian, said: “Goodyear, as one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world, has gone through 18 years of development in Dalian and has made outstanding contributions to the economic and social development of Dalian. In the past five years, the outstanding foreign-invested enterprises have been awarded by the Dalian Municipal Government for their contribution to fulfilling their social responsibility. They are also outstanding foreign-invested enterprises in Liaoning Province and a model for foreign-invested enterprises in Dalian. They have won respect from all walks of life in Dalian.â€
Chen Zhenggao, governor of Liaoning Province, was invited to attend today's production equipment. In a conversation with Kramer, he pointed out: "This time, the production of the Goodyear Puland factory marks a new milestone for the cooperation between Dalian and Goodyear. The special company has made outstanding contributions to the economic and social development of Dalian and even Liaoning in the past.The Dalian city government should continue to provide a good service environment for the development of Goodyear and provide a strong force for the development of the Goodyear Puland factory in the future.
