House fire in Sycamore, 10-26-16

This is from Art Zern:

Here are the attached photos from the Daily Chronicle. The story titled "Collyers Mansion" fire took place on October 26, 2016. It was a General Alarm fire with significant challenges due to the interior conditions, allowing only three firefighters at a time on the second floor. Despite the difficulties, it was a good response overall.

Excerpts from Daily-Chronicle.com and here:

Firefighters were called to 974 W. State St., in Sycamore, on Wednesday evening after a neighbor reported seeing smoke. Upon arrival, crews saw smoke coming from the attic of the two-story home, according to Sycamore Fire Chief Pete Polarek. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within about 30 minutes.

The residents were already outside when the fire department arrived. No injuries were reported. The fire caused approximately $40,000 in damage to the property.

Homeowner Larry Smith, 61, who lived there with his wife and son, mentioned that they had been remodeling the home. Two weeks prior, they had completed the roof and installed new windows, he said. He wasn’t sure what caused the fire, which appeared to have started in a second-floor bedroom and hallway. He also didn’t know where the family would stay for the night. The damage, along with smoke and water, made the home uninhabitable.

No one was injured in the fire, and the Sycamore Fire Department received assistance from crews in DeKalb, Cortland, Hinckley, and Genoa.

It's always interesting to see how these incidents unfold, especially when they involve homes that people have spent time and effort renovating. The fact that no one was hurt is a relief, but the damage must have been a big blow to the family. The coordinated response from multiple departments shows the importance of teamwork in emergency situations. The photos probably give a better sense of the scale of the fire and the work that went into controlling it. Looking forward to seeing more details from the article.
