Siemens will supply a slurry pump system for copper mines in Mongolia

Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services received an order from Erdenet Minerals Company to provide a pump system for a copper mine in Mongolia. The purpose of this pump system is to improve the tailings extraction process of the copper mine and to cope with the increased copper production. The system was supplied and installed by Siemens and will be operational in early 2007. The system is by far the largest slurry pump available to the mine. The order worth about 3.7 million euros. The copper mine run by the Erdenet Mine Company, near Erdenet in northern Mongolia. The mine mined 25.3 million tons of ore in 2005. The mine has an annual production capacity of 126 tonnes of copper, along with a loss rate of 0.25% of copper, which is expected to have a service life of 35 years. The mine, which is Mongolia's largest and most important industry, is currently experiencing periods of economic growth and new technologies are being introduced to increase production.
