Working fire in Belvidere, 9-2-20

The Belvidere Fire Department responded to a smoke report at the 600 block of W. Locust Street on Wednesday morning, September 2, 2020, at 10:36 a.m. The incident involved a multi-family apartment building, and firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the rear of the three-story structure while residents were being evacuated.

Upon investigation, the fire was located in a second-floor apartment within the 16-unit complex. Emergency crews quickly contained and extinguished the flames, preventing further spread and ensuring the safety of all occupants.

Authorities determined the fire was accidental and caused an estimated $20,000 in damages to the building, which is valued at $950,000. Several local fire departments and emergency agencies assisted in the response, including Boone County Fire Districts #2 and #3, Cherry Valley Fire, Marengo Fire, Boone County EMA, OSF Lifeline, and the Capron Rescue Squad.
